Statement of Fundamental and Indispensable Truths

Living Word Covenant Church International (LWCCI) stands firmly on the premise that the Bible is the inspired and authoritative Word of God. In compiling the following statement, it recognizes the Bible as its source of faith and Christian practice. It also sets forth the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, Healer, Baptizer in the Holy Spirit and Soon coming King and presents the Body of believers as a people wholly connected to God and one another in Covenant Relationships.

WE BELIEVE IN THE

1. Inspired Word

The Holy Scriptures are the inspired, infallible, immutable and authoritative Word of God  contained in the Old and New Testaments – the Bible.   The Bible does not simply contain the Word of God, but is, in reality, the complete revelation and very Word of God inspired by the Holy Spirit and revealed to man.

2. Trinity

The Godhead exists eternally in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. These three are one God, having the same nature and attributes and are worthy of the same homage, confidence and obedience. They are equal in every divine perfection, and they execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence and redemption.

2.1. God the Father

God the Father is an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love  who exists eternally as the Creator of heaven and earth, the Giver of the Law, to whom all things will be subjected. He infallibly orders all things after the counsel of His own will and foreknows all that shall come to pass.

2.2. God the Son

The Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal and only begotten Son of the Father, is Truly God and Truly man.  He was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and by His sinless life, miracles and teaching, gave full revelation of the Father.  He died upon the cross, the just for the unjust, as a substitutionary sacrifice.  He rose from the dead.  He is now at the right hand of the Majesty on high as our great High Priest.  He will come again to establish His kingdom in righteousness and peace.

2.3.1.  The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead.  He is the agent of Salvation who convicts man of his sins and leads him to Christ.   We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy and separated life in this present world.

3. Man

Man was originally created in innocence in the image and likeness of God.  He fell through sin, lost this innocence and as a consequence, incurred both spiritual and physical death.

This state of spiritual death has spread, through the sin of one man, to all men.  Consequently, all men are conceived with an inherent spiritual condition that is wholly corrupt and hostile towards God and His Law.  As soon as man is capable of moral action, he willfully exercises resistance to God, manifesting his deservedness of divine condemnation.  Apart from the intervening work of God’s special grace, man physically dies in his state of spiritual death and passes into an eternal living death in hell.   Man can be saved only through the atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

4. Salvation

The Salvation of man is a free gift, received exclusively by grace through repentance towards God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and not by merit or good works. Through salvation man is

regenerated and renewed by the Holy Spirit, and becomes an heir of God according to the hope of eternal life. The inward evidence to the believer of his salvation is the direct witness of the Holy Spirit and the life of righteousness and true holiness is the outward evidence to all men.

5. The Body of Christ /The Universal Church

The body of Christ is one.  Everyone despite his race, colour or creed who is born again and adheres to the teachings of Jesus Christ forms part of that body – the Church.

 6. Ordinances

The Lord Jesus Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church, Water Baptism and the Holy Communion.

6.1. Water Baptism

Water baptism was instituted by Jesus Christ.  It is practiced by immersion that signifies a believer’s identification with Jesus Christ in his death, burial and resurrection.  All who repent and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are to be baptized as this declares to the world that they have died with Christ and that they have also been raised with him to walk in newness of life.

6.2. Holy Communion

The Communion Table or the Lord’s Supper was instituted on the same night the Lord Jesus was betrayed.  It consists of breaking of bread and the fruit of the vine.  These emblems symbolize His body (bread) and His blood (fruit of the vine) given as a sacrifice for mankind.  Participation in the Lord’s supper expresses our sharing in the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ, a memorial and proclamation of his suffering and death and a prophecy of His second coming.

7. Baptism of the Holy Spirit

All believers are entitled to and should earnestly seek the promise of the baptism of the Holy Spirit according to the command of the Jesus Christ.  The initial evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.  Through this the believer comes to know Christ in a more intimate way and receives power to witness and grow spiritually.

8. Bodily healing

Bodily healing is a privilege provided to all believers through the atonement of Jesus Christ on the cross. Prayer for the sick and the gift of healing are encouraged and practiced.

9. The Five-fold Ministry

In Matthew 16:18 Jesus said “Upon this Rock I will build my church…”. He has set the foundation upon which the Church is built.  “The foundation of Apostles and Prophets” Himself being “the Chief Cornerstone”. In accordance with Ephesians 4:11 we believe that He (Jesus) gave to the Church Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers for three distinct reasons namely;  that the Saints may be perfected, so they could do the work of the Ministry, that the body of Christ could be strongly built and increased.  Living Word Covenant Church International fully believes in and submits to the Five-fold Ministry both on the local and universal church level and do pray for and expect God to raise in this local church, Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers in accordance with Christ’s Mandate, as we seek to build a local Body that will reach the world with the grace and truth of the Lord Jesus Christ through the power Holy Spirit.

10. Giving

We believe in tithes and offering as an act of our worship to God.  Tithing was divinely instituted by God under the old covenant and was compulsory upon the people who worshipped God.  While it is true that we are no longer under the old law – we are under Grace, we must not forget that the purpose of grace is to help us live for God and do the things He wants us to do.  Tithing is our obligation to give; giving of offerings is an opportunity to give to the work of God.

We believe that we should not only give our money to God; rather we should give off our time and resources. The overall principle behind giving is the fact that what we do with our money, time and resources shows where our heart is.  Matthew 6:21 says “for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

11. Covenant Relationships – God is a God of Covenant

God, the God of Covenant has established His will and purpose in the earth and exercises those by a strong Covenant bond that keeps everything and everyone working in harmony in order to fulfill His perfect will for all of mankind. He established Covenant between Himself and Abraham and later with the Children of Israel to demonstrate that when man works with God in Covenant, great things happen to the glory of God and the welfare of those in Covenant with Him. In the New Testament, that Covenant was ratified with God’s people, The Church through our Lord Jesus Christ. The church therefore, can only and effectively fulfill its God-given mandate on that basis and is expected to function on the Principle of strong Covenant relationships that transcend every other relational bond among God’s people. Effective Christian living, practice and ministry can only be experienced when all the people of God relate to one another on no other basis than Covenant Relationships. Therefore we believe that the building and fostering of Covenant Relationships is our prescribed way to worship, serve and please God, thus contributing meaningfully to the personal and corporate well-being of God’s people.

12.  Marriage

Marriage is the God Ordained union of one man and one woman into life long relationship that is recognized by the church and legally sanctioned by the state.

13. Heaven and Hell

Heaven is God’s abode where the redeemed are united with him at death. Hell is the abode of Satan, his fallen angels and the unredeemed who die without Christ where they will suffer eternal punishment with fire and brimstone.

14. The Resurrection and the Second Coming

There will be a resurrection of the Dead and those who died in Christ would rise first.  There will be a second coming of Christ which will include the rapture of the saints, followed by the visible return of Christ with His saints to reign on the earth for one thousand years.

15. The Final Judgment

There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works. Whosoever is not found written in the Book of Life, together with the devil and his angels, the beast and the false prophet, will be consigned to everlasting punishment in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.
